Welcome to New Forest Volleyball Club
New Forest, New Era

The indoor season is well under way now and it's been a very pleasing start for all teams at NFVC. Both NVL teams have undergone a huge change of personnel and with that comes a lot of hard work to gel everyone together. Therefore it has been exciting to watch both the men's and ladies secure victories in the opening month! Most satisfying has been the emergence of many junior players gaining court time and showing such maturity against opponents who started playing the sport before they were born!

NFVC has also started well in their first season in the Southampton and District league (SADVA). Both men's and ladies teams have a 50% win record to date, a great effort with such young squads. Unlike other clubs who choose to use these games to enhance their NVL squads, Forest has used many of their Academy players as the club continues to provide competitive opportunities for their juniors to grow within the sport. Forest now boast many individuals competing at regional/national level - highlighting the success of the clubs Academy programme.

"NFVC has always been about bringing through youth to ensure the longevity of the club and I'm very proud to see our young players performing so well, many of whom have already collected MVP nominations. The club has expanded so rapidly of late and with teams now also competing locally, it's exciting times ahead for our club." James Kemp - Club President/Head Coach

Alongside the players, the club has expanded it's coaching staff too. Jeff Waterman has now joined Ian Loke as Men's Assistant Coach, an appointment which has already brought great knowledge and experience to the squad. Sam Pitcher has excelled in his new role as Academy Coach, overseeing Friday night training sessions and SADVA Men's fixtures. Michael Johnson, Daisy Haynes and Zubair Mir are doing a wonderful job coaching juniors at partner club Lymington VC - they have also assisted Sam at Academy training too. The SADVA ladies are being led tremendously well too by Zara Hill (team manager). Forest continues to provide it's members with opportunities to take on club responsibilities and those mentioned above shows what a wonderful outcome this can lead to.

James Kemp a runner up for a Torch Trophy Trust Award!

Along with only eight others from Volleyball, our Head Coach and President James Kemp was recently named a runner up for a Torch Trophy Trust Award for his efforts as part of our coaching setup at Applemore and Lymington and the UK School Games in 2010. As well as receiving the Volleyball England National Children's Coach of the Year Award this year, James contributions to sport more widely in the UK have been recognised. This award reflects the work that James does at Forest and this can be born out in the number of our academy players that are now developing on to Inter Regionals, UK School Games and the National Squads. James is pictured above with Audrey Cooper, GB Women's Head Coach collecting his award in April this year.

"The Torch Trophy Trust originated in 1948 when London last hosted the Olympic Games.  Before every Olympic Games a torch relay is organised from Olympia in Greece to the Host City. Following the 1948 Games, the Torch designed for the last leg of the Relay into Wembley Stadium was presented to the Trust.  Since then the Torch Trophy Trust has provided bursaries to assist volunteers in sport and presented awards to individuals who have been identified as making an outstanding contribution as a volunteer in their chosen sport." Our congratulations also go to Freda Bussey of Ashcombe VC, Chair of Sussex Volleyball Association and Chair of our Regional Association, South East Volleyball. Freda's contributions to the sport are too many to name, but we're always thankful of the support we get from South East.. and our Women's Division 3 South team are looking forward to taking on Ashcombe Dorking 2 (Freda's team) three times over the coming season.

Poddington Peas Storm SADVA!
Tuesday, 11 October 2011 06:26

At their first outing last night in local league at Southampton (Southampton and District Volleyball), the New Forest Boys (now known as the Poddington Peas) played for the first time against SGTV Solent and Ordnance Survey X! For their first outing, the peas were Corin Atkinson, Ben Courcha, Bobby Haynes, Sam James, Michael Johnson, Zubair Mir, Sam Pitcher and Matthew Stent and were coached by Sam Pitcher and Daisy Haynes. We're also grateful to Josh Mulroy for taking on our scoring responsibilities.

After a crushing 2-0 defeat against SGTV Solent, our boys fought back and won 2-1 against Ordnance Survey X! Given that this is the first time many of them have played competitive men's volleyball, we're exceptionally proud of our academy stars and of our Academy programmes at Applemore and Lymington this year. Over the course of this season, we'll see our boys in action 10 more times at SADVA, and hopefully numerous times in the National Championships and Summer Tournaments 2012.

Our ladies make their SADVA debuts against Solent Ladies and Team Southampton Ladies at 7:20pm this Friday at St. Mary's Leisure Centre, Southampton.. It should be a good pair of games!
